Home & Dry!

A total of 791 competitors today crossed the line of the last stage of the Marathon des Sables 2012, with 4 ‘ranking in progress.’ The fact that 59 runners abandoned the course for reason or another, shows just how tough the conditions were this year. Rain, wind, hail, and lightning; baking temps of nearly 50 degrees C and sand storms – they had it all!

I realize this was a tough year for the particpants to complete the MDS. How would you rate it in comparison to the past 5 years?

    • Albert, nice to hear from you… I think they are all tough. I don think this was any tougher.. Some of the geography was challenging but it always is… The weather was kind this year which on the body is perhaps the most underestimated challenge. Heat is a killer…

    • Its a drone! Or octocopter! It has 8 blades like a helicopter, carries a DSLR camera or GoPro’s and is pretty cool!

  3. Third question – What was Rachid Morabity’s leg injury called medically? Is this a common muscle problem to runners that run extreme

    • No that I can’t tell you, he was obviously devastated and needs surgery apparently…
